Totally off topic

The other day (week about 2 weeks ago), my mate asked me if i had any anime recommendations to give her (she the girl in the Chii costume over at my currently inactive cosplay blog (lost my camera with all my pic). anyway, i told her that i had been watching a lot of J-dramas and not a lot of anime's but i told her that i would email her with shows to watch but putting it into an email, with links and stuff is long and i think she'll find it easier if i just post them here and give her 1 link.

All info on shows comes from Drama Wiki, Drama List and Anime List

So the first show that she should watch is

Hana Yori Dango

Genre: Romance

Makino Tsukushi is the only poor student at Eitoku Gakuen, the school of the ridiculously rich and privileged that is ruled by Flower 4 or F4, a group of four boys who come from extremely powerful families: Domyoji Tsukasa, the leader and heir of the Domyoji World Finance Group; Hanazawa Rui, the introverted son of a large company; Nishikado Sojiro, a player who is the heir of a tea ceremony school; and Mimasaka Akira, a madam killer with ties to the underground. If a student gets on the F4’s bad side, he/she gets a red notice and is bullied and driven out of school.

Makino hopes to pass her days quietly-- without drawing any attention to herself-- but one day, she stands up to Domyoji in defense of her friend. The next day, Makino gets the dreaded red notice. Even though she is harassed, Makino decides to keep going to school because she is a "tough weed". She declares war right back on the F4. Her resolve gets the attention of her crush Hanazawa Rui and oddly enough, rouses romantic feelings in her worst enemy, Domyoji Tsukasa.

The series is based on the Japanese shoujo manga "Hana Yori Dango" (Boys Before Flowers) by Kamio Yoko.

Main Cast
Inoue Mao as Makino Tsukushi
Matsumoto Jun as Domyoji Tsukasa
Oguri Shun as Hanazawa Rui
Matsuda Shota as Nishikado Sojiro
Abe Tsuyoshi as Mimasaka Akira

Anime - Film - TV Drama 2 seasons - Film

I LOVE this drama. After i told her about it and she proceeded to tell me, while still chatting away on the phone, that she started watching it, made me re-watch this show again. Inoue's facial expressions are excellent and i love the relationship between all five of the main characters. Beautiful Love story.

Must give a shout out to Mina over at Wota in Training for suggesting this show in one of her posts. I don't really watch jdramas much but i loved this one.

Gokusen

Genre: Comedy, School

The story of a young, idealistic teacher who enters Shirokin Gakuen with hopes of making a difference in the students' lives. However, Yamaguchi Kumiko (Nakama Yukie) is in for a rude awakening when she finds that she will be the homeroom teacher of 3-D, the hardest class to maintain in the school. The students have multi-colored hair, sloppy uniforms, and show absolutely no respect to her. The leader of the class, Sawada Shin is lazy but bright and shows some interest in Yamaguchi when he notices that she is very different from other teachers. The students try to bully her to make her quit, but their attempts don't get them very far.
What the class and the rest of the school does not know is that Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan. Even though her family would like her to take the title of Ojou when her grandfather dies, they have accepted the fact that Yamaguchi would rather be a teacher.
Eventually, the students learn to respect their quirky teacher because of her devotion to them, and even give her a nickname: Yankumi.

Main Cast
Nakama Yukie as Yamaguchi Kumiko
Namase Katsuhisa as Sawatari Goro

Season 1 - Special - Season 2 - Special - Season 3 - Special - Film

I won't put the synopsis for the all related seasons and what not's cos they are more of less, with exception to Season 2 special and the film, the same, Teacher meets yankee students, teacher hides family business, students learn important things from teacher, students graduate.

I put Nakama down as she is the solo main in this drama. Also Namase is important too but only for comedic value. Other cast members include members from Arashi, Hey! Say! Jump and some of Johnny's Entertainment trainees.

The film is good cos it shows the true lengths Yankumi will go to for her precious students.

Again, credit to Mina for another brilliant suggestion

Special notes:-
  1. Matsumoto Jun and Oguri Shun first met in this show before going on to do Hana Yori Dango
  2. Nakazawa Yuko plays Kawashima Kikuno the school nurse.

Main Cast
Narimiya Hiroki as Shinagawa Daichi
Naka Riisa as Adachi Hana
Hongo Kanata as Izumi Gaku
Koyanagi Yu as Chiba Seiya

1 Season

The relationship between Shinagawa and Adachi is excellent. Even though Izumi, Chiba and Himeji are supporting characters, they also help to give the show that added push.

Koizora

Genre: Romance

Tahara Mika is an ordinary high school girl. One day, out of the blue, one of her classmates kisses her. His name is Sakurai Hiroki also known as Hiro. Hiro stands out because of his bleached hair and piercing. Apparently he is also dating someone. Mika is shocked and hurt that her first kiss had to happen this way. She desperately tries to forget about it. Then, her friend tells her that she should find somebody else and suggests Tatsuya, another boy in their class. However, before she even realizes it, Mika is already in love...

Main Cast
Mizusawa Elena as Tahara Mika
Seto Koji as Sakurai Hiroki (Hiro)

Film - 1 Series
I hate it. I hate it cos when i cry, i tend to keep going for at least an hour and this is a REAL tearjerker. The film is basically the series in short form but completely different at the same time. I guess that it's because the actors are different.

Special Notes:-
  1. Miura Haruma who plays Kazama Ren in Gokusen 3 and also in the movie, Plays Hiro in the film. I prefer Seto mainly cos he's cuter.
  2. Miyazawa Sae is also in this drama. She plays a girl called Minami but the part is small and i seriously didn't notice her until when i was looking up the main actors that i found out she was in it.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Genre: Comedy, Romance, School, Shoujo

Seika High School, once an all-boys school notorious for its wild students and for generally being a terrifying place for girls, has recently become a co-ed school. With the female population still a minority and living in fear of the over-the-top antics of the males, Misaki Ayuzawa takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow the girls to feel safe in the rough environment.

Training, studying and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation among the male students body as an uptight boy-hating dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid cafe in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Usui Takumi takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.

This gave me bare jokes. Must see. Plus the Maid's uniform would make a great cosplay.

Ouran High School Host Club

Genre: Comedy, School, Parody, Shoujo

Fujioka Haruhi won a scholarship to attend Ouran High, a school reserved for the rich and prestigious. Despite what other students may think of her, Haruhi cares little for physical appearances or the fact that she's a commoner. Unfortunately for Haruhi, her high school days took a turn when she stumbled upon the Host Club, a group of guys who use their specific traits and charms to entertain the women of Ouran High. Even worse was that Haruhi had accidentally broken an 8 million yen vase in the club. Unable to repay her debt with money, Haruhi found herself with no choice but to work for the Host Club, becoming a male host herself.
I LOVE HONEY SEMPAI!!!!!!!!

Dubbed by Funimation.

Itazura na Kiss

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shoujo

Ever since she entered high school, Kotoko Aihara wanted to be in the same class as Naoki Irie. The only problem is that Irie is the smartest student in school contrast to Kotoko being one of the dumbest. Now in her 3rd year of high school, she still isn't there. However, one day her home gets destroyed and the only place left to go to was Irie's home. Now that she lives close to him, will their relationship be the same, or will it become greater than it is?

It was fun to watch how their relationship developed.

B Gata H Kei

Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Romance, Seinen

Yamada, first name withheld, is a 15 year old girl who has just entered Takizawa High School. Easily considered exceptionally beautiful, she has only one problem with her own body, she thinks her vagina looks weird and is very self-conscious about it.

Upon entering high school, her dream was to have casual sex with 100 men but therein lies the problem, she believes an experienced partner will tease her about the way her vagina looks or simply the fact that she's a virgin. She stumbles upon the solution in the form of Kosuda Takashi, a fellow virgin, whom she believes will help ease the transition to more experienced partners.

Yamada ...........no words can describe her and how her brain works. I watched the first episode before reading the synopsis. I normally don't watch ecchi anime but this one made me want to continue watching it. Only thing is that i hate the way it ended. Hopefully a second series comes.

Angel Beats

Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural

In a world after death, angels fight for their fate and their future. Yuri, the leader of the Shinda Sekai Sensen, rebels against the god who destined her to have an unreasonable life. On the other hand, Tenshi, the chairperson of the student council for the world after death, battles against the SSS members. SSS members utilize armed weaponry to battle it out against the angels harnessing supernatural powers.

Ahh the only non school based anime (technicall since the set is a school) i watched last year (aside from re-watching Digimon and Sailor Moon). It was fun watching all the different ways the characters died in the beginning. The story fully comes into it's own when the main character realises what everyone is really meant to be doing.

Right. so other anime that should be watched is Vampire Knight (hate how many people seem to do this as their cosplay.), Full Metal Alchemist (which i'm currently trying to watch), D Gray Man (another cosplay tragedy), Shugo Chara (Amu Hinamori is a student at Seiyo Elementary, where she has a reputation for being "cool and spicy"; however, her real personality is that of an extremely shy and easily intimidated girl. One night Amu makes a wish that she would have the courage to be reborn as her "would-be" self. The next morning Amu finds three brightly colored eggs—red, blue, and green—in her bed. Each egg eventually hatches into a Guardian Character: Ran, Miki, and Su. Guardian Characters are angel-like beings that aid a person into becoming their "would-be" selves and fulfill the person's dreams. The Guardian Characters accomplish this by giving encouragement and advice, but they can also temporarily change a person's personality and abilities. With the Guardian Characters, Amu's life becomes much more complex as she now struggles to deal with her new personalities and the Seiyo Elementary Guardians—a student council group where each member has their own Guardian Character—who recruits Amu to search for and seal the X eggs and X Characters, corrupted forms of people's dreams. More for cosplay than anything else (and Buono!))

That's all for now. can't think of any more to add.
